A Latics 'B' team were defeated 1-0 by a strong Barrow side yesterday (Friday).

A Bluebirds trialist bagged the only goal of the game.

The young Latics side looked sharp throughout, with Harry Vaughan coming closest to equalising after his header from close range was smartly saved.

B team manager Francis Jeffers was pleased with his side's workout and the youngsters that played.

“It was a good workout overall," he said.

"We were against a good squad who are doing really well in League Two, so overall very pleasing.

"I was impressed with the youngsters, Aaron Atkinson in particular, he’s one who trains with us quite regular.

"He’s a great young footballer who will be quite exciting for us.”

The game came just days after Latics boss David Unsworth captured the signature of striker Alex Reid.

Reid, who joins Latics following his release by Stockport, has signed a contract until the summer of 2025.

A proven goalscorer and National League winner at Edgeley Park last season, the 27-year-old has scored eight goals on loan at Solihull so far this campaign and brings genuine pedigree to the forward line.
