Oldham Athletic Chairman, Frank Rothwell, his voice strained with excitement, has been talking passionately about Latics' first win under his family’s ownershipship.

“We don’t have soccer fans here, they cause riots on motorways. Oldham has supporters. Real supporters. You can feel the love…”

Frank was talking in the wake of Latics victory at Boundary Park against Dorking, which was watched by more than 8,000 supporters.

“Yes, more than 8,000 real supporters. It’s terrific - and all this in just 16 days since we took over the club.

“I’m still coming down from the overwealming support on our walk to Boundary Park yesterday. People turned out in droves. In fact, they were all outside the ground cheering and clapping the ‘new era’ march and the seats inside remained empty until just before kick off. Then, wow. Amazing.

“On the march one mother asked me to kiss her newborn child. Isn’t that marvellous? And what particularly touched me was the number of youngsters who joined the throng. Really gratifying.

“Yes. You can genuinely feel the love for the club in the town.”
